The Fratellis
The background colour used on The Fratellis CD cover is cream which makes it look old fashioned and dull, the font used is particularly old fashioned as well - there is a retro theme. The image is of three women, so the audience might be led to believe these women are The Fratellis. The women appear to look like glamorous, stereotypical housewives and are almost 'Barbie stylised' with their perfect, very curvy figures wearing short dresses to make them obvious. The colours of these outfits are the only bright colours on the cover, making them stand out from the rest. However, the colours are muted, continuing the old fashioned theme. This Cd cover would attract an older male audience because of the theme it is portraying and the women included. The 'special edition' label attracts buyers and the reviews on the front promote the music and website.

The image looks like a broken mirror but it could be something else.
There is no picture of the band shown on the album cover, so there is no indication as to what they look like or what genre of music it might be.
It is not obvious what the image is portraying.
The black background makes the white dots look like stars in the sky at night.
‘Friendly Fires’ is not in a big font or made obvious on the cover, perhaps because their audience would know by looking at the image who it is, however it is at the top of the cover in the middle. The font is also modern and quite small.
It doesn’t display the genre of music but anybody who is not familiar with Friendly Fires might think their music is heavier than it actually is because of the smashed mirror.
It looks like the broken mirror is revealing something behind it and creates elements of mystery and also pain. Although it is an image of a broken mirror which should be messy, it is still in the same shape as it was before, which could mean that something is broken but only on the inside, for example if a person is feeling pain but doesn’t show it and acts as if there is nothing wrong.
Overall it is not obvious what this CD cover is trying to portray, it could be many things. It is also a bit misleading because people might think the genre of music is different from what it actually is.

Kings Of Leon
The theme of this album cover reflects the name of the album ‘Only by the Night’ because the colour of the image looks like it is in night vision. It is divided into quarters with part of every band members’ face in each quarter, so the audience can see who they are and work out the genre of music. This could also mean appearance is important to them. However, if the consumer did not know of the Kings Of Leon's music already, it might not be easy for them to work out what the genre of music is, but their image would give them an idea.
The fact that the parts of their individual faces are merged together to form one could indicate they have a very close relationship with each other, which they are because the band is made up three brothers and their cousin. There is also an image of an owl merged in, which is a night time animal, reflecting the album name again.
Kylie Minogue
The CD cover for Kylie Minogue's album Aphrodite is very striking. Kylie features on the cover which shows she is an important part of the music and wants a certain genre to be portrayed. Her name is also in a bigger font than the album name, which could be a way of her showing she is more important than the album, and that the name of the album shouldn't matter because her fans will know it is hers and support her by purchasing it. The album name was probably chosen because Aphrodite is the Goddess of Love, and the first song to be released from the album was called All The Lovers, so there is a continuous theme.Greek colours also feature in the image, with a blue and white background and Kylie dressed in blue. The position she is in makes her look very powerful, and this along with the costume makes her appear to be imitating Aphrodite. With the rocks in the bottom corners, the floaty dress which could represent water and the colours, this could be trying to reflect that in the Greek myth Aphrodite was born from the sea. The theatricality of the CD cover might be displaying that Kylie is a theatrical performer, or that she will be when performing the songs from this album.
Kasabian
The band name on this CD cover is what stands out the most and is designed to catch the consumer's eye. Having a typography that is so bold and black against the lighter background makes it stand out even more. Because there is no picture of the band on the cover, the band name has been made to appear like this to make it obvious whose album it is. The band name is also a lot bigger than the album name which features in a scroll under it.
The album name 'Empire' appears in gold font on the red scroll, which are both very royal colours and suggest power and importance. Other colours used are muted to give an aged look. There are features on this CD cover which make it look like a playing card. The 'K' above the club symbol personalises it, making it the band's own playing card.
Unless the consumer knows what genre of music Kasabian produce, it would not be obvious to the consumer just by looking at this CD cover and they would probably think it was a completely different genre.
